There are two "brakes" that will lock it in place, one on the left front and one on the right rear wheel. I bought this for my office after some recent back and especially hip problems. I did NOT want to spend 60 or 80 bucks on a chair, but my husband said, "Wouldn't it be worth it if it works." So I bit the bullet. The wheeled feature of this chair is great. But the features of the ball chair are working for me. So glad I did.The pump that comes with the kit is crappy, but it does work fine.
I can see how the plastic piece could wind up snapping off, but so far so good with mine.It does sit quite low - I'm 5'7 with long legs - but it's manageable. I knew that these problems were made worse by sitting. I've found that I constantly accidentally kick down the front brake - I wish it was in a little less convenient spot. I've been using the ball chair for a few months now and while my hip pain isn't completely gone, it is definitely diminished. I have just a plain yoga ball that I use at home, but I thought that would be kind of a pain at work. It definitely subtracts from the position of power when someone comes in the office and sits across from my desk and I have to look up at them.No doubt, this chair feels VERY cheaply made, and I think if I leaned against the back, especially if I were heavier, the back would snap right off.
Less frequent hip pain for sure.
This is a great product. If you have to sit at a desk all day this keeps your posture perfect, stops you from crossing your legs and relieves the pressure on your tailbone. As an added benefit you develop strong abs and lose 400 cals a day. Buy one today.
Also my butt was sore after sitting on this thing for more than 15 minutes AND my legs felt cramped. I absolutely hated this chair. Wow, judging by all of the previous raving reviews, I guess I must be from another planet. My son, who also spends many hours each day at his computer didn't like this chair either. Very uncomfortable. Increased my neck pain and caused back pain. My wife said it made her legs uncomfortable. This baby is being shipped back for a refund.
The chair is as good as others claim, but be warned, the rocket scientists ship it in a box with pictures all over of what is inside. So don't plan on any surprises once it gets shipped.
Now that I have my Gaiam, I sit up straight (because it forces me to do so) and I can spend hours and hours typing up a storm without a back ache EVER. I am VERY impressed with my Gaiam ball chair. It's a fabulous chair. My daughter had suggested a "ball chair" (which I had never heard of) for my bad neck and back, knowing I'd set myself up for a lower back spasm by sitting in a regular chair, slumping toward the back of the chair for hours. My back let me know for an entire week that my wooden chair position was exactly what it did NOT need. When I first received it, one or two trial and error stints with filling or deflating the ball a bit were sufficient to find my exact, perfect height. The Gaiam ball chair really a marvel.especially for those of us with back problems.or anyone who wants to sit properly.
